The Best Friend

I was stuck at home all by myself. It was Halloween night, but mom had said that I was too old for trick-or-treating. I was getting bored watching Halloween thrillers and handing out candy to little kids at the door. I wanted to do something fun, it was Halloween night after all. I thought "Why don't I just ask some friends if they want to come over?" Then, I remembered most of them were still allowed to go trick-or-treating. I didn't really think it was fair. Why do they get to go but I don't? Just because whenever a bowl of candy that says "Please take one" is left out on someone's doorstep and I just dump the whole thing in my bag anyway doesn't mean I steal candy that's meant for the younger kids! Wait, forget I said that. Anyway, it's still isn't fair! Right as I was about to go find something to do in my room, a knock was at the door. "Must be more candy-crazy kids" I thought. I opened the door, but no one was there. I stepped outside, looked around, but still didn't seem to see anyone around my house. I just assumed it was some teens doorbell-ditching. My mom told me earlier that I wasn't allowed to go outside, but I kind of did. I didn't go to the other side of the neighborhood or anything, just the edge of my walkway. Right when I was about to go inside, the front door slammed shut right in my face! I pounded on the door, and, thinking that it was my brother playing a prank on me, I started shouting his name. It felt like forever, but I finally heard the door unlock. I opened it, stepped inside, and saw.......absolutely no one there. Just then, the lights went out. The TV in the other room that was still on was flashing light into the hallway. "This isn't funny! Come out!" I yelled. No answer. I looked around, and a chill went up my back when I saw the back door wide open. I knew I closed it earlier, but I guess I forgot to lock it. I knew that someone, or something, was in the house. Fear was slowly creeping up inside me. I heard a sound in the TV room, like something falling off a shelf. I walked into the room, my knees shaking with fear. On the ground, a picture of me was on the floor. It had fallen off the wall. I was more scared than ever, chills on my arms, neck, and back, fear struck in my heart, and shaking not leaving my knees and legs. I decided to try to calm down. I went into the living room and tried to turn the lights back on. The moment they flickered on, I saw someone sitting behind the counter. I thought I was going to faint from fear as I walked closer, closer, and closer. When I reached the dark counter, a person jumped out and yelled! I walked backwards toward the wall, the person coming closer, until I realized, it was my very best friend! "Haha! I got you good! Happy Halloween, best friend!" she said. "Oh, wow! You are good! Happy Halloween!Hey, can I have some of that candy?" That was the best Halloween ever!
