On Halloween Night
My brother, Simon, and I were walking through the streets one Halloween night when the road came to a split.  "Let's go that way," my brother said. My brother and I argue about everything. So of course, we argued. “I don’t want to go that way! Why can’t we go that way?” I cried pointing. The moon illuminated the road, fog was creeping around corners, and the street was completely vacant. The street had no halloween decorations, but they didn’t need any. It was creepy enough on it’s own. “That way looks a little scary, are you sure you want to go that way?” Simon said. “Don’t make up excuses. I didn’t know you were such a baby.” I replied. He glared; saying no more. He still didn’t move toward the dimly lit street. “Come on!” I said exasperated. This time I could win the argument! “Ellie said she was going to have a party! This way will be quicker and we’ve been here in daylight! It can’t be that bad!” Something I said must have got to him. “Whatever.” he said walking quickly in the direction I chose. When he turned his back, I pumped my fist in a silent celebration before following him down the street. I ran up to meet him and took lead in a brisk pace full of confidence. “Did you hear that?” He asked suddenly. “No.” I said.  I continued without pause until he asked a third time. “Did you hear anything?” “Of course not!” I said turning to face him, but he was gone. I whirled around searching for any sign of brilliant blue eyes or perhaps a glimpse of red fabric. He was gone. “Simon?! This isn’t funny!” fear was slowly edging into my voice. “You’re really starting to scare me!” I paused hoping for an answer. “This is no hide and seek game!” I backtracked. Where could he be?  I quickened my pace, tears stinging my eyes. This wasn't supposed to happen! I broke into a run, glancing back constantly. It’s all my fault. I thought. “I’m sorry!” I yelled into the night. “I’m sorry!” I fell to my knees and let the tears flow. Why didn't I look back before? He could have been gone longer than I relized! A cold hand creeped it’s way up my back and rested on my shoulder. I froze. Was  I to have the same fate as my brother? NO. I decided. I screamed and kicked myself out of the creature’s grasp. Only to find that the creature was my brother. His face was shining like the stars. At first, I thought it was my imagination, but then I realized that it was the moon reflecting off his tear stained face. “Simon!” I cried and threw myself around him. "Laura! Where were you?!" “What are you talking about? Where were you?!” “I thought you were eaten by monsters.” He breathed in my ear. "Where were you?" “I wandered off trying to find out what the sound was. I didn’t wander that far, but I couldn’t find where the noise was coming from. I eventually gave up. When I went back, you were gone!” I was laughing so hard by the end that I was crying. “What’s so funny?” "Nothing. Let's go home, I've had enough of a scare for one night."
