My Writing Life
Last year, before school started, I started to write. I never really liked to write because I am such bad speller. I'd always have to stop to ask how to spell a word, but I started to write so I could practice typing. It started out as me sending a letter on gmail, to my great grandmother every day. The letters mostly contained the highlights of that day or questions like "how's your summer? When can I come to your house again?" Pretty much just the basic things you put in a letter you absolutely have to write. School caught up to us and slowly our letter exchange became less and less frequent as I became more and more busy.
One day (night), I had a dream about a book I read. I thought it was a cool dream and didn't want to forget it. I started to write my dream on a google document. The "dream" changed as I became to know the characters. Sometimes at night I'd find myself thinking about my story and making up new adventures and problems the young characters would go through. I would recite the ideas so many times adding here and there and deleting here and there, until they changed completely. Eventually, I would find a good time to write them down. As I became more attached to my writing, I wanted to write while I was traveling or on trips. As a result, I found a composition notebook that I could use for writing and started where I had left off.
The idea of writing whenever I wanted got to me, because I started another book/story. This time my inspiration came from a lockdown drill. Our class was huddled up next to the teacher's desk, it was dead silent (sort of). I was alone with my thoughts. The idea came to me suddenly. What if someone actually got in? Wouldn't that be scary? How would I react? (most likely I'd scream, but you know.) That's how my second book started.
To conclude, "My Writing Life" started just before I entered 6th grade. It started as notes and grew to fictional stories. I am certain this year will really help me gain strength in writing.
Your story was so good it made me want to do and extra comment! I love how you came to like writing. I also like how you wrote a lot and how much your post was detailed. Your writing is really good and I hope you keep up the good work!

ReplyDeleteLove your passion Kirsten! I really love how you started writing from a dream and it grew from there. That is a fantastic way to tap into what is happening in your brain:) You are so observant, and allow yourself to daydream as you tap into your creativity. Ah, this is SO cool and the makings of a great writer! So happy to have you in class. As you revise, go into more of your writing process because it's very interesting!
