My Life As a Writer

when I in fifth grade my writing wasn't nearly as good as now and I also, was still learning English so that was difficult but, still I tried to do my best when writing even though I didn't understand a thing about it. I remember that when my mom went to talk to my teacher in fifth grade, he told my mom that I was writing in Spanish/English that means I put some words in English and the one's that I didn't know put them in Spanish I was so embarrassed but, When last year my teacher from English that I was good at writing I was impressed of myself because I didn't believe it since then I believe that I had improved my writing skills as well for my English had improved and I know that all the people that help me at speaking, and improving my writing would be really proud of me and themselves to.
My Writing Life

I have been really good writer since I was in first grade. When I was about 8 or 9 years old I would always write small stories. I usually write about anything that goes on In my life. I like writing about humorous events in my life.  In elementary school, I was always on the higher level reading. It helps to be a good reader when it comes writing. When I was younger I didn't like writing that much. I thought that writing was boring and a waste of time. The older I got the more I started to enjoy it. When I got to intermediate school I decided to try the honors program. Language Arts is the subject I'm most skilled at. Writing is a great to express yourself through words.

My Writing life

I have never been that much of a writer when I was little,  but the more I started to write the more I enjoyed it. I started writing a lot was  when I got into last year's honors Language Arts. That was when I started to like writing.  Ever since I got into that honors program that was when I started to like writing because I did it so much. That was when my writing life began. My favorite thing to write about is fantasy or mystery because I can use my imagination to write an amazing story. Now that I am in this years honors program for Language Arts I can write a lot and I am enjoying it. That is my writing life and how I started to like writing.

My Writing Life

My Writing Life

What's my writing life? Well, when I was in first grade I was one of the lowest of the
class. I didn't know how to even read. Mostly everyone in the class was already reading small chapter books at that time.Which made me feel bad about myself. The next year, I was still in the same level as the year before that. Then, third grade comes into my life. It was a much better year for me. I was in the second grade level. Not that great but, it was better than other years.

At the beginning of the forth grade, I was in the third grade level. I tried my
hardest that year and ended up in the level I was supposed to. I was very happy about my self. Then the next year, I was in the highest level of reading and writing of fifth grade. Which was probably one of the best years of my elementary.

In sixth grade I started to read less, which of course lead me to stay at the same
level as the year before that. I always had an NP on my grade. I really didn't try to do my homework at all. My teacher (Mrs. Finklea) told everyone in the classroom about Honors LA. As soon as she told the class I got very excited. I wanted to join as soon as possible. All summer I was waiting for my schedule to get on powerschool. I saw that I got into Honors LA and got very excited. In till this point I am not on the highest but, also not the lowest  level of writing. Now I love to write and happy to be on this point of writing. That is my writing life and I hope you liked it.

My Life As A Writer

My Life As A Writer

I have always had a love hate relationship with writing. The first time I really began to realize I had the best tool ever was in first grade. I was very fortunate to get one of the best teachers, Mrs. Henry. Our class was assigned to write a three-paragraph essay regarding the steps on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The most exhilarating part was when she read our essays and did the exact steps of our essays. I was very close to making an actual sandwich. That was the one thing that really motivated me. I was very eager to become a better writer.

I'm not going to lie, I have never been the brightest student when it comes to language arts. I myself have grown into a better writer day by day. I always struggled with the Sage test in language arts. I started to genuinely improve around fourth and fifth grade. Being in the dual immersion program was a big advantage for me. I learned to write in English and Spanish. Throughout elementary school I learned multiple ways to write essays. The one that benefited me the most was taught by Teryn Olsen. I use that every day.

My style of writing is very complex. I have a passion for creative writing. I enjoy to just sit down and write. I come up with ideas on the spot and I write them down. One thing that I have written is a biography. I did the project in fifth grade. I enjoyed it very much. I wrote my biography about Blake Lively. I received 100 percent. That was one of my favorite essays/projects. I use adjectives as if they are a car. I use them every time I write. I am one of those people who doesn't like to use words that are mainstream. I love to increase my vocabulary. When I write I repeat what I'm writing. So while you are reading this I want you to imagine myself, doing this in a computer lab talking out loud and making a fool of myself.

I write because it makes cheerful. I get this indescribable sense of joy when I write. Writing is something that I can really express my feelings and thoughts. Its similar to a getaway, a vacation. Its my soft spot. I could write more and more but I think its time to conclude. I love to write. Its my passion and I can't wait to continue it with Mrs. Robins.

My Writing Life

To start off, I generally don't really write much. But when I do I love to free write! I like to write all kinds different genres and it can be really fun to me! My favorite would be fantasy. It probably started in about 4th to 5th grade. I started learning how to write paragraphs and how to indent and all. But when we were given a specific thing to write about, such as an informational topic, I would lose interest and space off a lot. It's easier for me to focus on writing when I'm interested in it. And then in 6th grade I learned a lot more about writing, for example, the ACES paragraphs, and the OREO paragraphs. I was able to do free writing during school every once in a while, but even then I didn't usually get to finish my stories. In conclusion, I like to make up my own stories and like writing!
I've always loved writing. Writing has been a fun experience for me over the years. Ever since I was in Kindergarten I would always write whenever I got the chance. I remember in second grade I wrote a book about me going to Mars. When I was finished writing , I showed it to my teacher and asked her if I could read it to my class and she said that she liked it and said that I could present it to everyone. Ever since then I kept writing stories about people and I especially loved writing sci-fi stories. I also loved to write experiences about my life and share it with other people such as my friends. Last year I had a journal that I wrote in ( almost ) everyday. It was about my life as a sixth grader. I am so lucky to have Mrs. Robins as a LA teacher and hope that she can help me become a better writer, and that Is my writing life.

My writing life

When I first started writing I hated it because I thought it was complicated and difficult. As the years went on I started to realize that writing was fun and expressive. Writing was a place were I could express my feelings or thoughts. Little by little I became more interactive and better at writing. I wrote lots and lots of stories on my free time. Even though some of my friends thought it was unpopular that did not stop me from doing what I enjoyed. And that Is my writing life.
I never really liked to write. I thought it was boring and no fun. But ever since last year, I began to think it was fun. Everyday I used to write in my diary and write at least two pages. Now, I just feel like free writing, My favorite type of writing. Recently, I wrote a story about a narwhal saving a kitty from a tree and becoming a hero. I had no clue what I was doing. I guess just free writing. My friends enjoyed it. I also wrote my own silly book called, The Amazing Lexicorn! It was a story about my friend that turned into a Unicorn and saved people. As I read some books today. I sometimes think what if I could be as good of a writer as the author? Well......I can, if I keep practicing. Writing is fun. Sometimes when I'm bored, I just want to write. I have an AWESOME teacher this year named Mrs. Robins and she will help me be a better writer.

My Writing Life

When i was in fourth grade i started writing. I like creative writing, I hated writing i'm  being honest it wasn't fun for me, but i still had to do it. Little by little I started to enjoy writing. Every time we would we would have to write i hated it sometimes, not to lie i kinda still do, but when the topic is fun or when i actually start writing i enjoy it sometimes. And i would always want to write a lot to impress my teacher. But now i know that you don't have to write a lot to impress someone. And yeah, that's my writing life.

I never really had a knack for writing till i was 5 or 6 years old. I just lost one of my family members and was in a lot of pain and sorrow, and writing seemed to take my mind off of things like grieving and feeling sorry for myself. My first story was about "what if i never lost that one family member and was right here, standing in front of me?", that kinda change my feeling about writing.  I was starting to get into romance and action style writing around 5th grade and was feeling more confident in writing. Never have i felt that i found my happy place, writing! But i was still grieving about the death of a family member. I tried everything i could to get it out of my mind, but writing seemed to do the trick every time. I still feel depressed every day of my life, and writing is my escape to happiness, comfort, and peace.

My Writing Life

My Writing Life

Last year, before school started, I started to write. I never really liked to write because I am such bad speller. I'd always have to stop to ask how to spell a word, but I started to write so I could practice typing. It started out as me sending a letter on gmail, to my great grandmother every day. The letters mostly contained the highlights of that day or questions like "how's your summer? When can I come to your house again?" Pretty much just the basic things you put in a letter you absolutely have to write. School caught up to us and slowly our letter exchange became less and less frequent as I became more and more busy.
One day (night), I had a dream about a book I read. I thought it was a cool dream and didn't want to forget it. I started to write my dream on a google document. The "dream" changed as I became to know the characters. Sometimes at night I'd find myself thinking about my story and making up new adventures and problems the young characters would go through. I would recite the ideas so many times adding here and there and deleting here and there, until they changed completely. Eventually, I would find a good time to write them down. As I became more attached to my writing, I wanted to write while I was traveling or on trips. As a result, I found a composition notebook that I could use for writing and started where I had left off.
The idea of writing whenever I wanted got to me, because I started another book/story. This time my inspiration came from a lockdown drill. Our class was huddled up next to the teacher's desk, it was dead silent (sort of). I was alone with my thoughts. The idea came to me suddenly. What if someone actually got in? Wouldn't that be scary? How would I react? (most likely I'd scream, but you know.) That's how my second book started.

To conclude, "My Writing Life" started just before I entered 6th grade. It started as notes and grew to fictional stories. I am certain this year will really help me gain strength in writing.

My Writing Life

When I was younger I would love writing. I remember in k - 2nd grade loving to write and help my friends write. I enjoy writing about anything really. I also remember when I believe it was 3rd grade but I wrote a small story about Minecraft with some of my friends. I do also enjoy doing some non-fiction writing. During my time at Diamond Valley I enjoyed doing writing projects on things like submarines and animals. I also enjoy writing sci-fi books. I don't really know why I like writing but it is just something I really enjoy even though it isn't my best subject. Once I am better at writing and coding, I hope to write a small book about HTML programming to help people learning that subject. There are some examples of my writing life.
My Writing Life

I love to write, It is a part of me, It shows who I am, and what I stand for.
Throughout the years of my life, I got interested in writing at about age 7.
It has impacted me in so many ways! Writing is like a get-away, It is like
a Vacation. When I write I get little jittery feelings inside me telling me
what to put down. On Instagram I like to write Captions, It helps people
know the way I feel and how I view bad things like conflicts and
good things like blessings. Everyday I use my writer mind in some different way.
I learn new things, Feel new things, And experience new things.
I think its kind of cool to be able to write down what your feeling,
like Lyrics in a song. If you listen to the radio, you will notice that
there is almost always a meaning. I like to write when i'm unhappy,
It is like therapy, and helps me to put myself in others shoes. I also
like to write when i'm happy, It just makes me feel
better about myself and about the situation. Writing is a great thing
and I always want to continue doing it.

My Writing Life

I've always liked writing ever since I was a little kid. I think writing is fun and relaxing.
When I was a little kid I would always make up different stories and I thought I was the best writer in the world. I thought that I was going to make millions of dollars by writing stories.
Fifth and sixth grade was when I really started to like to write. I got exited whenever we would have a really fun writing assignment.
Now I write all the time, because sometime around January of last year my brother left for his mission, so now every week I get to write him about everything that is happening in my my and my families lives. I always look forward to write him every week.
I love writing and I can't wait to do it this year.

                                                              My Writing Life

When I was Little I never really liked to write, but in 5th grade my teacher showed me a good and fun way to write. I started to love It. Everyday I would go on my google drive and write little stories I had made up. My favorite type of writing is creative writing. Soon writing became my favorite thing ever. Once I was done with my new story I would show my teacher and my mom. They always said it was good ,but it never really was perfect. In sixth grade I had a new teacher and  new writing life. I learned to write well. My sixth grade teacher taught me a lot of new writing tips. I Became an even better writer than I had been before. Now that I'm in honers language arts and I have Mrs. Robins as my teacher, I know that I will be an even better writer that I've ever been.

My Writing Life

I've liked writing ever since I was little. I remember writing stories in my room on  pieces of paper and when I was done I stapled them together and thought it was going to get published! I remember in 2nd grade I wrote a very long story about hide and go seek when we had writing time with just myself and some other characters I made up. I wrote till the end of the school year. I don't know when I started it though.

In 3rd grade I wrote a story about to a High school that had asked for stories to put into a drawing. The winning story got to be made into a play and preformed by the High School students that came to our school and preformed them in an assembly. I wrote a story about a piece of bubble gum that wanted to be famous. Eventually she became famous enough to be on a movie! It was really cool.

Last year in 6th grade I had a hard time writing articles. I thought that I wasn't good at writing. This year in 7th grade I really feel like a good writer. I guess all I needed to get me going is someone to tell me I am a good writer. That is all about my writing life. I hope I will stick with writing the rest of my life!

                               My Life as a Writer

I began my journey of a writer in the 4th grade.  I remember this silly story I made about me and my friends with elemental powers. It was called Seriously Dude (The characters said dude a lot) It was about 8 chapters long and then I gave up on it.  After that, I started to look into poetry and some more fantasy.  I wrote about Countries, Imagination, and dreaming (I was a real strange kid in 5th grade). 6th grade was a bit tougher, I didn't write as much I hoped, but managed to get a story or two here and there.  I went through a magical phase and wrote about how mediation brought out everyones inner chi and the magic it brings.  I liked that phase.  Now as a 7th grader I write with more humor, emotion, and quality.  I now enjoy writing humorous tales with Teens, Wizards, and much more.  I really try hard to grasp the readers attention and not lose it. In conclusion, I am a fantasy humor type writer that loves to write.

My Writing Life

I have always loved writing! I can still remember the very first story that I wrote when I was little. It was called "The Dancing Trees." It was about this mom and daughter who lived together in the woods. On one morning, the daughter woke up, looked out of her window, and saw the trees dancing outside! When she told her mom what she had seen, her mom didn't believe her. Every morning, she kept seeing them dance. She told her mom what she saw every single time, but her mom didn't believe her until the very end. One morning, the daughter looked out of her window, and the trees had stopped. She went to tell her mom that they weren't dancing anymore, but when she got to her, her mom said that she saw the trees dance that morning! That was the end of the story. I was very little, but my dad set up my own little writing folder on his laptop that I could use at any time to type up stories! I have still been using that exact same folder on the exact same laptop ever since! I have always loved writing stories, and I don't think I'll ever stop liking it!

My writing life

When I was little I never really liked to write at all. During 1st to 3rd grade I would always get mad when it was time to write. I started to like writing during 4th grade because in class we got to write a lot of fun stories. My friends and I started to begin writing a long story for fun and we all really liked it. I finished the story a while ago but I was writing it for 2 years. Once I was in 5th grade I always got a 4 in writing (4 is the highest you can get as a grade). I like to write humor, fantasy, and mystery because I love reading those kind of books. I got really good in writing during 6th grade because I wrote at home for fun and I practiced all the time. I love writing because it makes me happy and imagine images in my head while I write.

                          My Writing life

When it comes to writing I prefer creative and humor.I don't always write, but when i do i enjoy it.I began writing when i was in 4 grade (well at least full paragraphs) although i didn't enjoy it until the end of 6 grade.I remember hearing in class when the teacher would say "time to write"and I would just hate it.Then i stared warming up to the idea. Oddly enough I prefer writing by hand than typing, although it's exhausting, I find it fun.I may not be the best writer but I like to think i'm okay at it.Well, that my writing life.

My Writing Life

So far my writing life has been limited to only a few years, since the fourth grade. This is when I started writing full paragraphs, which I would type, because I really hated actual writing. I would write one paragraph a week and doing it so much really hurt my interest in writing. Thankfully, in fifth grade my teacher would not give us quite as many writing assignments, but they were also 3-5 paragraphs long each. Another reason fifth grade got me to love writing was by the fact that we did it on Utah Compose, I loved Utah Compose because it would tell me the different areas of writing and help me see how I was doing in each area. This helped me improve in those specific areas. Finally, in sixth grade we did a little more writing than I would have hoped, mostly because of the Beehive Nominee summaries. (This is where I learned that I am a little to good at putting in details, my summaries would be 3-5 pages long). Though by the end of the year I was a pretty good writer, and I was pretty excited to be in the honors class for seventh grade, the only part I wasn't really looking forward to was the newspaper because I didn't know what it would be like. It turns out that I was wrong, because it it my favorite part of the class. In a nutshell, this is my history in writing.

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

I remember, the first time I tried to write a story. It was in second grade and about a donuts life and all the hard things it had to go through. I was never a serious writer until 5th grade when my story got put on the writing wall of fame. It was about an apple who was happy on his tree until he got plucked off and cooked. As you may have noticed about my last two stories I like to write about what objects are thinking when you use them. If I have to write a story, I would defiantly choose fantasy, I love writing about whatever I want to without having to follow reality. I may not be the best writer, but that still doesn't take away my love of it.
When I started to like  writing was in fifth grade when our teacher would make us go into groups and write about something you liked or did. I read lots of fantasy books and still do but that is where my inspiration for writing came for writing down all the things that were on my mind. When I was in one through fourth grade I hated writing and never wanted to do it and that is how my brain started to move away from writing. But now that I have gone to fifth and sixth grade and gained my love for writing. I will never feel the same about it. Because I enjoy writing I have became a better writer.
I started writing in fifth grade. That was where I started to like writing, my teacher had us writing about fun subjects and I realized that writing wasn't that bad. Also, I loved reading. I was always reading in my free time or doing something like it. Reading calms me down. It seems to affect me like calm music effects people. I have always liked fantasy and science fiction. My favorite author is Brandon Mull because of his stunning fantasies, and because of his writing and others writing I decided to start a book of my own. It didn't turn out as I expected so I didn't continue, but now I'm older so I will. I love being in this class and I can't wait to read and write with people that love those things.

My Writing Life

When i was young my life based on writing due to my mom that is a retired teacher, I do enjoy creative writing better than writing about a subject, an example could be that 1st grade i always liked to get papers and make them into a book with a little help of my mom sticking them together after that she'd let me write whatever i wanted, it wasn't   that pretty hand writing (not gonna lie not even today i have good handwriting) But, it wouldn't matter to me in the end, i remember writing about the typical evil witch and a prince saving a princess classics you know? Today its not that bad for me to write but i rather enjoy reading but it doesn't mean i cant write a story when i feel like it. As you can see my writing life as pretty nice i guess that is why i wanted to get in language arts honors cause its a nice challenge!!

How I Became a Writer

When I was little, I always liked to read.  I thought that it was a good hobby.  So I tried to write a comic strip.  It did not go so well.  After failing and failing over and over again, I actually received a 2 on my report card in 1st grade in writing.

I was forced to write in this journal that was brand new and looked very nice.  At first I thought that it was horrible (which it was for the first and second grade) but then I became a great writer. Soon my hand writing improved so much it was almost as if I had typed it. Then I stopped, so it got worse. Now, I'm what most would call a decent writer. I'm no J.K Rowling, but I can write awesome sci-fie novels.

There are, however, some speed bumps in the road of writing. Such as now when I have sprained my wrist to the point were I have to write with my left hand. I think that I would be a better writer if I started to write more, but now days typing is in and writing is out. I wish that this tale was more exciting, but I was told that this post didn't have to be action packed.

My Writing Life

After reading about some of my classmates' writing life, mine doesn't seem quite as exhilarating. Although I love to write, it is hard to fit it in with all of my activities. With baseball three times a week, swimming two times a  week, reading and homework almost daily, not to mention my daily violin, it's nearly impossible to find any time to write!  On the bright  side,  I use my many activities to my advantage. How you might ask? As inspiration for my writing, of course! I've been a writer ever since I can remember. One of my biggest sources of inspiration is from books. I am reading constantly, and I like to emulate various authors' style of writing and apply it to my own writing. Also, one of my favorite car games to play while I'm bored is the "Think of a Possible Book I Could Write Sometime"game(created by: Yours Truly).

I love writing poems the most. Whether it be silly, or connected to my life somehow, I love writing poems because I get to express myself. I also love to write fictional short stories. When I write fictional stories, it feels like the words just flow through me onto the page. My most memorable fictional story was in fourth grade. We had about five minutes to write about anything. Before the teacher even said go, I had a one page short story written in my head. The humorous story was about a kid who got chased because he wore a red shirt to a bull-riding competition! I have absolutely no idea where that inspiration came from. The class got quite a kick out of that one.

I don't know about you, but it is the best feeling in the world to hand an editor ( for me, an editor would be my mom, a teacher, or a friend) your piece of writing and have them look it over, smile, or even tell you they liked it. One of the main reasons I write is to make others feel good. I love to share my writing if it could possibly lift somebody's spirits, or receive a laugh. I'm so excited to be in this class because now I can share my writing with all of you!

September Post

I have always loved to write. It has been my dream to become an author. I just love coming up with different characters and the story attached to them. I have been writing for as long as I can remember. When I was in 1st grade, I wrote the story "Coldie Socks and the three Weirdos." Looking back, it was quite hilarious. Currently I am trying to write my own fantasy novel. But I find sometimes I can't focus on my writing, since my brain wants to wander elsewhere. I have gotten a lot of inspiration from the numerous books I read. I am so happy that I am in honors Language Arts, because now I can improve even more on my writing. I get many of my ideas from random things I see in the day. I once came up with an entire dystopian society while eating a bowl of strawberries. It is super exciting being in honors. And I can not wait to learn new writing techniques.

Thursday, September 15, 2016

I've been writing for a very long time and I actually like a lot. I love to write stories of all kinds especially fantasy. The reason I like writing my own stories so much is because its amazing how you can make a whole world come alive in your own words and have people read your creation and visualize it in different ways. I also like writing to people specially to cheer them up because even words can make someone happy. I usually write during school, home, and when I am bored. When I write I usually get my ideas from other books and just the world that we live in. I get my writing style that I use in my stories from other authors like Brandon Mull. He is probably my favorite next to Ransom Riggs. When I was in 4th grade I entered a contest and the winners book got published and I wrote a story with my cousin Nate it was about a boy who finds out he has super powers and fights bad guys the usual 4th grader book, although I did not win the contest it was a pretty cool experience and it made me a better writer and more inspired to write more books. Little did I know I would be here writing for a 7th grade honers class 3 years later!

Tuesday, September 13, 2016

I've been writing since Kindergarten. Even before I could write I would ask my mom to write what I said and I would draw the pictures. In 2nd grade my teacher would let us write plays and perform them for the class. My friends and I all decided that we would write a play together. We worked on it for what felt like forever! We wrote whenever we could, at recess, free time, and sometimes we would take turns taking home all of the scripts and writing them. We wrote about three pages and for a 2nd grader, that was a lot! However, when we performed it it took like 5 minutes. A few years later, my brother and I got into writing more plays, we had recently made up these little characters that we would use in all of our plays. They even had special voices which were hard for everyone except for us to do, and it seems weird that we are the only ones who can do it.

I really enjoy writing fantasy stories, even when I was young. I remember in one grade (I don't remember which one it was) my teacher had writing folders and every day we would have writing time and everyone wrote their stories really short and fast, but I wanted to make a long one, I'm pretty sure it was about a flying bunny, but I felt like I was the only one who hadn't finished at least one. She didn't make us turn the writing in, but I felt like it was too long, so I threw it away (and I really regret that now.).

Most of my ideas either come from holidays and events coming up, things that I really like at the time, or other stories I have heard. Holidays are definitely my kind of thing. I once wrote about a baby that this boy knew and the baby was a baby genius and on Halloween he went to her house to visit her. She was carving the scariest most detailed pumpkin he had ever seen. The flying bunny one that I mentioned in the other paragraph was around Christmas time, the girl got the bunny for Christmas. When I was in 3rd grade I was really into Sonic the Hedgehog video games and so was my brother, and we started to make it into a play, but I don't think we finished it. I still enjoy writing so much, and I can't wait to finally start writing again!

I've been writing for many years, but I think I started making actual stories in first grade. Me and 3 of my friends decided to write a story about 4 girls and supernatural beings. I remember we wrote about lots of ghosts, a werewolf, and maybe a vampire. In all, we wrote a 12 page story together. I don't mean to brag, but I was the best writer in our class, and when the other girls were done, I added details to their sections. The story was really good for four 1st graders, and was kind of funny. When I was in 4th grade I copied the story onto Utah Compose, fixed a few grammar and spelling mistakes, and got a 30/30.
When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, I couldn't sleep, so I got out my MP3 player, and recorded myself telling a story. I never started over, and there were hardly and breaks. Once I started, I recorded for about 20 minutes, I think. Over the course of the following weeks I copied the story onto paper, listening to a sentence at a time, and writing it down. I showed it to my teacher and she put it on her rack with her other suggested books.
Since then, I've written multiple short plays, getting my characters from our dress up clothes, some of which included Snow White, The Cowardly Lion, and an Evil Queen. My brothers and I would perform the plays for our family, acting as several characters each.
In the years following, I've written many stories for school, and a few for fun, but as the years go on, I find less and less time for free writing. I have several stories and plays waiting to be finished at the moment, but I don't think I'll ever get around to them. I really enjoy writing, and am doing my best to write more often.

WELCOME Class of 2016-2017

Hello Honors class! I am delighted to embark on this journey with you this year. This is our class writing blog. It's a safe (and fun) way to get solid practice in writing and write for a real audience. Last year this was very successful and I'm looking forward to seeing how it will play out this year.

How often do I post? You are required to post once a month and leave 3 comments as feedback on other's work. I'll be adding you all as authors on the site so you can freely post. The deadline is the last day of the month.

How do I post? Make sure you are logged into your school gmail account. Click the "Post" button on the top right screen.  Type your post and hit "publish". It should now show on the blog.

What do I write? Each month I will post exactly what the requirements are.
Please follow directions so you can receive full points on the assignment. See the link on the right for what good feedback looks like. I'll have you write a large variety of different types of writing.

How often should I get on the blog? I'd get on at least once a week. You do post once a month, but remember to read everyone else's post as well as mine. It's an interactive blog, the more feedback the better.

Does this count on my grade? Why, yes it does! I'll be doing a dual academic and effort grade for this. If you are late, you will lose all effort points.

Does anyone else read this besides our class? It is a public blog but it's not publicly shared. Feel free to invite your parents and friends to read. Please only use your first name and last initial (example: Rachel R.) when you post.

How do I behave on the blog? We are all developing writers. You should always be kind, positive and thoughtful. Do your very best and always encourage each other. We are a community, a family of writers and there is no room for making fun or being rude to others.

Assignment for September:   I want to hear about your life as a writer. You may write about whatever you choose to represent your writing life! It needs to be at least 1 paragraph long, and you do need to leave a comment on 3 other student's posts. Here are some ideas (you do not need to write about every one) to get you started: what do you write, where and when? What is your favorite thing to write? Do you share your writing? Ever win anything from writing? Why do you like to write? Where do you get ideas?
Please post and comment by September 30th

Mrs. Robins's Post (to give you an idea of what your post might look like)
When I was a kid I'd write stories. My big breakthrough was in 2nd grade when I read the book "Freckle Juice" and wrote a reader's theater play based on it. My teacher wasn't nearly as impressed as I thought he'd be. :) However, that didn't deter my hunger for writing. My mom had me enter some essay contests in elementary school. This gave me the thrill of winning contests which continues today.
I've never been a regular journal-writer, just writing every now and then when I felt the urge (usually the first week in January). I do LOVE poetry and write poems fairly often. It's been a good way to process life and use my creativity. I continued to enter every contest I could in school and felt some success when my writing was deemed good by other people. In 8th grade, it dawned on me that writing good essays had a formula. Since then I've enjoyed writing essays and excelled in academic writing in college.
When I write creatively, I get my ideas from the world around me. Today, I write on blogs (I do have a writing blog where I work on my personal writing) as well as letters to friends, emails, social media and for publication. I've done trade-work for my writing before (I traded a Christmas poem for a gift for my daughter), have written documents and grants for the school and love to write humorously to make people laugh.
I went back to college in 2009 to finish my college degree in English Literature and Composition with an emphasis in Secondary Education. While there, I rediscovered my love of writing and gained valuable skills to up-my-game. I began to submit my work to present in conferences and for publication in literary journals. It was beyond cool to travel to read my writing and see my name in print. Currently, I love teaching students to write well and I still work on my own stuff: poetry, creative non-fiction and my novel...one day I'll get around to finishing it! Writing helps me process my emotions, create and it makes me happy. I'm a writer: how about you?
